The breezy afternoon
Summer in the Gulf region is very harsh but it has its own beauty. The golden sand and shiny Arabian Sea look stunning in the bright afternoons. But it sure creates hard weather conditions to survive in this heat. In ancient days, the houses were built keeping the idea of staying cool as the central concept. So the desert homes needed to take special care to make sure that there was enough ventilation.
An important engineering concept that was introduced during the early part of the 20th century was the use of the wind towers called Barjeel. These towers were used to direct the flow of the wind so that air could be recirculated as a home cooling technique in the past. Whenever I have visited old historic areas in UAE, I have always enjoyed walks through these beautiful architectural structures.
This palette knife painting is inspired from such lazy afternoon walks.
